Fields Institute launches a sports analytics conference

The Fields Institute at the University of Toronto is organizing a two-day Fields Sports Analytics Workshop in about two months’ time — 24-25 May. The objective of the conference will be to disseminate current methods, practices, and research in sports analytics, and in particular the role of advanced techniques in mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

The conference will have a series of speakers, a panel discussion on the future of sports analytics and the role of advanced techniques in it, an analytics competition for students, and networking opportunities.  Looking at the speakers’ list sees some familiar names such as Luke Bornn, Mark Glickman, and Michael Lopez, emerging talents such as Meghan Chayka of Stathletes, and speakers from organizations that I never knew had a sports analytics department (Justin Detlor of Canadian Tire).  This workshop aspires to be the type of conference that the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference is, or rather, used to be.

If you’re interested in attending the conference, you can sign up at the event page. Registration is cheap, and I expect to see some high-powered attendees there.
